Recognising Local Business Women
For many people it is absolutely not sure that you leave your way to help others. But there are a couple of people for whom it is. Therefore there is an extra category called “Inspirational Woman of the Year”.
The sponsor of this category is Roedean School, an independent day and boarding school in Sussex for girls aged 11-18. Roedean aims to provide a stimulating education and exciting extra-curricular opportunities in an environment which is supportive and friendly. The pupils are encouraged to be self-reliant, explore their talents and strive for excellence. That is why caring and committed staff ensure that the pupils make informed decisions, lead as well as be part of a team, appreciate cultural diversity, but also are fair and honest as well as respectful and pardoning.
A finalist in this category is Sheila Flavell, the Chief Operating Officer, Founder Director and part owner of the highly acclaimed international IT services provider, FDM Group. Sheila has enjoyed a hugely successful business career spanning over 25 years in both the public and private sectors of IT. Sheila is fully committed to both lifelong learning and promoting women in IT. She completed both an MA and an MBA, whilst raising her family and playing an integral role in the flotation of FDM on AiM. Sheila was also a key instigator of the management buyout of FDM in 2010 and spends the majority of her time traveling around the world, spearheading FDM’s global expansion programme. Sheila won the Cisco Corporate Leader of the Year award at the everywoman in Technology Awards 2012 and is the driving force behind FDM’s Global Women in IT initiative.
